EQT New Turbo Testing - Initial Results

Posted by Dave Veal on

Finally got a chance to do some in house testing on one of our new beta MQB turbos and it did not disappoint! This Golf R has a built block and un-ported head with upgraded valve springs. The transmission is all stock so we limited torque to around 500ft-lbs to keep the clutches alive until they get upgraded. The car has all the other usual supporting mods and is using a dual walbro setup for fueling.   This pull was one on E85, reaching a peak of 43psi of boost at 7000-8000RPM. We're at the point of maxing out the...

EQT Golf R Goes Drag Racing!

Posted by Ed Susman on

We had some fun at the drag strip tonight. This is my daily driver 2016 Golf R on the stock IS38 turbo with upgraded intake, downpipe, intercooler, HPFP, COBB Tuning AccessPort, EQT Custom Tune on E85, EQT DSG tune. For these runs we pulled out the passenger and rear seats as well as the catback exhaust. It ran an 11.46 @ 119mph at full street weight. We're running Hoosier drag radials but still having a lot of traction issues in the front. I’m fairly certain that has to do with my front camber which is set up for track (-2.3 degrees). The...

EQT BRZ Down at Thunderhill - 8/21/15

Posted by Ed Susman on

I have some sad news to report: the EQT BRZ is down for the count and will be down for a little while. As many of your know, we have been pushing the stock engine very hard through many track days and a lot of testing and abuse with lots of boost. The plan with this car was always to continue to push the stock motor with more power until we saw a failure. We did this as an R&D exercise to find the failure point of the stock FA20 so that we have a good data point to provide our...

EQT MK7 Golf R - Thunder Hill East - On-Grid 2/4/2017 session 3

Posted by Ed Susman on

Here's a little video from the track day in my Golf R with On-Grid. I ran a new PB for this car of 2:08.5 which is about 5 seconds faster than when I ran it bone stock. The car now has an AMS Downpipe, APR Intake, CTS DV, APR Stage 2 Tune, and SuperPro rear sway bar. On this day I was running some street tires (Bridgestone Potenza S-04's in 255/40/17). The car did great and I was really impressed with the improvement over stock. But the brakes were the major weak point as they are still completely stock and...
